Les Brown And His Band Of Renown, led by saxophonist Les Brown, were a fixture on the US popular music and broadcasting landscape for more than half a century following its inception in 1938, and during a golden first fifteen years or so racked up 26 US pop hits, most famously introducing Doris Day to the chart scene as his featured singer during the 1940s. This 49-track 2-CD collection comprises selected A and B sides from his releases during this era on the Bluebird, Decca, Okeh, Columbia, and Coral labels, with performances by featured vocalists Doris Day, Butch Stone, Betty Bonney, Ralph Young, Jack Haskell, Eileen Wilson, Champ Butler, Four Hits And A Miss and The Modernaires, along with releases with the Ames Brothers and Johnny Mercer. It features all his 26 career hits, including the No. 1s “Sentimental Journey”, “My Dreams Are Getting Better All The Time” and “I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm”, and the Top 10 hits “Till The End Of Time”, “You Won’t Be Satisfied”, “Doctor, Lawyer, Indian Chief” and “The Whole World Is Singing My Song”. It’s an entertaining snapshot of the mainstream swing-flavoured pop of this era, and a great showcase for his hugely popular brand of music.
