The Kingston Trio were one of the most popular and successful groups to emerge from the growth in popularity of folk music during the 1950s, as they brought a polished commercial approach to updated versions of traditional songs, becoming the biggest-selling album artists on the Capitol label during their first few years with the label, with five No. 1 albums, as well as scoring a number of significant and memorable hits in the singles charts. After making a No.1 US chart debut with Tom Dooley, which also made the UK Top 5, and followed up with classics like All My Sorrows, M.T.A., A Worried Man, San Miguel, Where Have All The Flowers Gone, Everglades and Greenback Dollar.
This great-value 55-track 2-CD set comprises all their A and B sides from the first formative years of their recording career, along with a track from each of the fourteen albums they released during this period. It therefore provides a thorough overview of their chart-focused output during this era, as well as a substantial sample of the material which was bringing them a level of popularity which transcended the genres of folk and pop in an unprecedented way.
