In Moroccan Arabic, jola (“tour”) refers to a key stage in a musician’s initiation into the tagnawit, the Gnawa tradition: a solo journey from town to town to meet masters, absorb new techniques, and explore different musical worlds. This album mirrors that path, guiding listeners through encounters with Gnawa musicians from various cities who have made Brussels their home. Its structure follows the līla—the all‑night Gnawa ritual—carried by the steady pulse of the guembri and unfolding through its four traditional sections: the sacrifice (ḏbīḥa), the drum procession (ʿāda), the celebratory dances (frāǧa), and the possession trances (mlūk), offering a step‑by‑step spiritual journey of sound.
