Gregory Howe is the eponymous acoustic album released by the founder of Wide Hive Records.
Howe joins forces with long-time collaborator Matt Montgomery (Throttle Elevator Music) to create an all acoustic album of 18 original songs full of guitar, piano, lush strings and beautiful vocals. Joining them are excellent cast of musicians including superb vocalist Rosie Steffy, virtuoso violinist Laurel Thomsen, outstanding cellist Stefanie Vartabedian, organist Matt Cunitz, accordionist Dan Cantrell, lead guitarist Mike Ramos, and Wide Hive compatriot vocalist Nathalie Sanchez.
Over the past two decades, Wide Hive Records has created more than 50 albums with musical artists/icons such as Roscoe Mitchell, Kamasi Washington, Larry Coryell, Calvin Keys, Erik Jekabson, and Phil Ranelin. Howe, a founding member of Throttle Elevator Music, Wide Hive Players, Neomythics, Dissent, and Variable Unit, forged a musical career in the early 1990s.
Within the last decade, Howe produced nearly 30 records including several with Larry Coryell, Phil Ranelin, Roscoe Mitchell, Neomythics, Erik Jekabson, and Throttle Elevator Music.
Now based in Berkeley, California, Wide Hive’s musical approach has been described as being respectful of past tradition while progressing toward new musical horizons. It is this direction that led to the formation of both The Wide Hive Players and Throttle Elevator Music.
Since 1997 Wide Hive and Gregory Howe have remained dedicated to the production of distinctive and transcendent music and have become best known for both fostering great young talent and creating original music with legendary artists.
This recording also marks the debut of Angle Iron Music, a sub label of Wide Hive Records that focuses on modern music with a vintage feel.
