Spanning over two decades, George Perles three serenades offer a snapshot of the composers never-ending quest to find a musical language in the wake of the Second Viennese School. Drawing on his admiration and scholarship of Berg, Bartókian and Stravinskian aesthetics, and references and homage to both European classical and popular American music, this work demonstrate Perles 12-tone tonality at its finest. Perle occupies a commanding position among American composers of our time.
