With Cantabile, the Di Salerno Trio presents a deeply lyrical and intimate vision of contemporary jazz, one in which melody, interplay and expressive nuance take precedence over display. Bringing together pianist Guglielmo Guglielmi, saxophonist Sandro Deidda and double bassist Aldo Vigorito, the trio creates a distinctive chamber-jazz sound, dispensing with drums to allow an extraordinary sense of space and conversation between the instruments. The album’s title—meaning “in a singing style”—perfectly encapsulates the music’s character: warm, melodic and richly communicative. Across a programme of original compositions and a sensitive reimagining of the classic “Coimbra”, the trio draws on Mediterranean lyricism, European jazz traditions and decades of shared musical experience to craft performances of elegance, subtlety and emotional depth. Refined yet accessible, Cantabile stands as a testament to the enduring power of melody and to jazz as a language of dialogue, imagination and heartfelt expression.
