With Madre Tierra – Doña Lucre, Argentine bassist and composer Carlos “El Tero” Buschini offers a vibrant musical journey through the landscapes, rhythms and memories of South America, viewed through the lens of contemporary jazz. Drawing on the rich traditions of Argentine folk music while embracing improvisation and modern harmonic language, Buschini and his ensemble create music that is both deeply rooted and strikingly original. From the celebratory energy of Carnaval y Utopía to the evocative title track and the haunting beauty of pieces such as Garganta del Diablo and Luz de Otoño, the album unfolds as a series of musical portraits inspired by people, places and stories. Throughout, Buschini’s writing balances rhythmic vitality with lyrical sensitivity, reflecting the spirit of Madre Tierra—Mother Earth herself—as a source of memory, identity and renewal. The result is a compelling synthesis of jazz and Latin American tradition, rich in colour, emotion and a profound sense of place.
