Welcome Aliens is an extraordinary celebration of music for the first authenticated alien landing—a truly unique program that can only be described as Cam Newton music. Totally original and innovative, this album is a bold follow-up to his debut release on Inner City Records, The Motive Behind the Smile. It features an exceptional lineup of musicians: Cam Newton on guitars (and vocals on Water Baby's Chant), Jim Pepper on saxophones, Mark Isham on horns, Patrick O'Hearn on electric and acoustic bass, David Leslie on acoustic piano and synthesizers, Rob Thomas on violin, Doug Ness on drums, Jack Newton on percussion instruments, Steve Koski on pedal steel guitar and 'steel drum' guitar, and Hom-nath Upadhyaya on tablas. The album was so well received that Downbeat Magazine awarded Welcome Aliens a stellar 4 1/2 stars out of 5, cementing its place as a groundbreaking piece of work in the world of contemporary music.
