With Before We Change Our Mind, Beoga step confidently back into the spotlight, delivering a more mature and fully rounded recording that sheds any lingering “rising stars” label and places them firmly within the forefront of Irish traditional music’s new wave. Guided by producer Michael Keeney—known for his work with Foy Vance, Ed Sheeran, Lisa Hannigan, and Bonnie Raitt—the album was largely recorded live in the studio, capturing a vibrant, spontaneous energy while maintaining the clarity and precision of their earlier work. Reinforcing their reputation for innovation, all seven instrumental tracks are original compositions by the band, while the songs draw more deeply from the folk tradition, including “The Bonny Ship, The Diamond,” sourced from the repertoire of Ewan MacColl, alongside the Tommy Makem classic “Farewell to Carlingford” and “Wexford Town,” long associated with travelling singer Pecker Dunne—a fitting inclusion given his family connection to band member Niamh Dunne.
