Uragano Elis (VVJ051) is Barbara Casini’s heartfelt tribute to the legendary Brazilian singer Elis Regina, an artist whose emotional intensity, interpretative depth and musical daring left an indelible mark on Brazilian music. Long celebrated as one of Italy’s foremost interpreters of Brazilian song, Casini brings warmth, elegance and profound understanding to a programme drawn from the repertoire associated with Elis, including works by Milton Nascimento, Baden Powell, Guinga and other major figures of Brazilian popular music. Rather than imitation, Casini offers deeply personal readings that blend jazz sensitivity with the rhythmic and melodic richness of bossa nova and MPB, creating performances that are both intimate and expressive. Released in 2004 on Via Veneto Jazz, Uragano Elis stands as a loving homage to one of Brazil’s greatest voices and a testament to Casini’s own exceptional artistry as a vocalist and storyteller.
