Asi is a quietly adventurous Italian jazz album that balances melodic warmth with an exploratory, contemporary spirit. Built around the compositions of Ermanno Dodaro, with contributions from Francesco Consaga and Arturo Valiante, the album moves through a varied collection of pieces including Acque, Mary, Per una stella caduta, Mujer, Off Topic, Icaro and A piazza in Piscinula. There is a strong sense of atmosphere throughout, with the musicians allowing the melodies room to breathe while creating a fluid interplay that shifts naturally between lyrical passages, rhythmic movement and more open-ended improvisation. The music feels rooted in the Italian jazz tradition but never confined by it, drawing together elegance, curiosity and a subtle contemporary edge. From the reflective beauty of Per una stella caduta to the more playful character of Off Topic and The Last Dance of Maciste, Asi is an engaging and sophisticated set that rewards close listening, revealing new colours and details with each return.
