Triplets showcases Italian drummer Amedeo Ariano in a setting that perfectly reflects his versatility and instinctive musicality. Having worked with such jazz greats as George Coleman, Johnny Griffin and Benny Golson, Ariano brings a wealth of experience to this intimate trio recording, joined by the rich-toned double bass of Luca Bulgarelli and the formidable Francesca Tandoi on piano and vocals. The album traces a lively path from the traditions of classic jazz piano trios towards a more contemporary sound, always retaining a sense of fun, spontaneity and emotional warmth. Tandoi plays with remarkable confidence, shaping bold, soulful lines, while Ariano and Bulgarelli provide a rhythmic foundation that is both powerful and beautifully responsive. The familiar repertoire—including I Didn’t Know What Time It Was, The Sheik of Araby, You Don’t Know Me and When Sunny Gets Blue—is given fresh energy through inventive arrangements and spirited interplay, while the occasional vocal appearance adds another dimension. Crackling with life and musicianship, Triplets is a highly engaging Italian trio session that honours the great piano-trio tradition while giving it a distinctly modern personality.
